There have been a number of instances of anti-social behaviour at Beckett Recreation Ground; fires, glass being smashed on the courts and car park, abuse of play equipment, vandalism and littering.
These events have coincided with an increasing number of cans and bottles being strewn around the field, some still containing alcohol.
There is potential danger to children who might come across unattended fires or consume alcohol from discarded containers, so we have contacted North Yorkshire Police who will visit the park whenever possible on evening patrols.
The police have pointed out that if those responsible are under eighteen they are most likely from the village and raised the question of how the alcohol is being obtained.
Additional security measures are being explored, which would deplete funds that should be used to maintain and improve the park for everyone. It is hoped that as a community we can help put a stop to the anti-social behaviour before a more serious incident occurs and the police have to be involved further.
